Kansas City at Tampa Bay
This is Missed It. Kansas City at Tampa Bay, Saturday, August 22, 88 and overcast at Raymond James Stadium, with the Buccaneers. You missed it? Here's the whole game, as it happened.
First Half: A Field Goal Fight
We open the game trading punts, back and forth, neither side finding a rhythm. The Chiefs get the first real chance, and Butker drills a 45-yard field goal. 3 to 0, Chiefs. We answer with a drive, but a holding penalty kills it. Dixon punts it away. Then the Chiefs march again, and Butker hits from 58 yards out. 6 to 0. We get the ball back with under two minutes. Browning drops back, fires to the end zone, and it's incomplete. Turnover on downs. We give it right back to Kansas City with no time left. And then it happens. Butker lines up from 69 yards. Sixty-nine. The snap, the hold, the kick. It's good. The half ends 9 to 0, and the air goes out of the building.
Third Quarter: We Strike Back
We need something, anything. The defense holds, and we get the ball back. Daniels takes over at quarterback. He moves the chains, and then he finds Kieft in the flat for a 2-yard touchdown. We're on the board. 9 to 7. But the Chiefs answer. A pass interference penalty puts them in our territory, and Johnson punches it in from 1 yard out. The extra point hits the upright. No good. 15 to 7. We get one more chance before the quarter ends. Potter lines up and drills a 46-yard field goal. 15 to 10. We're within one score.
Fourth Quarter: The Comeback
The defense needs a stop. Oladokun drops back, throws it over the middle, and Parodie steps in front. Interception! He returns it to the 22-yard line. The crowd is on its feet. Tucker takes the handoff, powers through the line, and scores from 1 yard out. Touchdown! We go for two, but Daniels is sacked. The attempt fails. Still, we lead, 16 to 15. The Chiefs have time. They drive all the way down to our 33-yard line. Butker lines up for a 43-yard field goal. The kick is up... and it's wide right. No good. We take over. All we need is to run out the clock. Daniels takes the snap and kneels. The clock hits zero. It's over. Final score: Tampa Bay 16, Kansas City 15. We win.
