First Quarter: The Field Goal That Started It

We open in a scoreless tie, and both sides are feeling each other out. Waller's punt pins them deep, Sparks answers right back. We're trading blows, nothing doing. Then Virginia drives, and Bettridge lines up from 47 yards out. The crowd holds its breath. The kick is up... and it's good. 0 to 3. We're down early, but there's plenty of football left. Then it gets ugly. Slibeck's kickoff is a touchback, and on their very first play, Pribula gets dropped for a loss by Warren. We take over, and Bailey drops back... and Hillman steps in front of it. Intercepted. Virginia takes over at our 32. Four plays later, Brown punches it in from a yard out. Bettridge's kick is good. 0 to 10. We're reeling, and the quarter ends with Pribula finding Brown for a 45-yard touchdown pass. 0 to 17. That one stings.

Second Quarter: The Fumble That Killed Us

We need an answer. Waller booms a 52-yard punt, and we force them to punt right back. Snow returns it 29 yards to midfield. We're in business. Six plays later, Bailey tucks it and runs right. He picks up 12 yards, down to their 7. We're knocking on the door. But the ball comes loose. Hillman forces it, Danley recovers. Our best chance of the half, gone. We trade punts, and the half ends with us down 17. We've had chances. We've let them slip away.

Third Quarter: A Glimmer of Hope

The second half starts, and Virginia wastes no time. Pribula drops back, fires deep right to Martin. Caught at the 6, and he's in. 0 to 24. The mountain just got steeper. But we don't quit. We put together a 10-play drive, and Wilson powers in from a yard out. Desinor takes the pass attempt, and it's successful. 8 to 24. We're back in this thing. Then Virginia grinds us down. A 25-play drive that eats the rest of the quarter and into the fourth. Davis finally punches it in from a yard out. 8 to 31. That drive broke our backs.

Fourth Quarter: The Final Nail

We need a miracle. Bailey drops back, finds Jackson for a yard. That's not enough. Turnover on downs. The air goes out of the building. Bettridge adds a 42-yard field goal. 8 to 34. We get the ball back, but we're just going through the motions. Wilson finds Desinor for five yards as the clock runs out. Final: 8 to 34. We came in with hope, and we leave with nothing. The turnovers killed us, plain and simple. We'll be back.

We open with a punt exchange. Neither side giving an inch. Then we march. Six plays, and it's Bettridge time. From 47 yards out. The snap is clean, the hold is true, and it splits the uprights. 3 to 0. We're on the board first. Then the turnover bug bites. Pribula loses a yard on the rush. We give it right back. But our defense answers. Bailey's pass is picked off by Hillman at the NCS32. The crowd roars. We take over with a short field. Four plays. That's all it takes. Brown punches it in from 1 yard out. Touchdown. Bettridge adds the extra point. 10 to 0. We're rolling. The quarter ends with us driving. Seven plays, and we're knocking on the door. The second quarter is ours for the taking.

The Breakaway: Brown from 45

We pick up right where we left off. Pribula drops back. He sees Brown streaking down the sideline. The pass is perfect. Brown hauls it in at the 45 and takes it to the house. Touchdown. Bettridge's kick is good. 17 to 0. The place is electric. The Wolfpack try to answer. They move the ball, but our defense holds. Punt. We take over, but we can't convert. Downs. Another punt exchange. Then it happens. Bailey tries to run. He gains 12 yards, but Hillman strips the ball. Danley recovers at our own 7. We dodge a bullet. The half ends with us up 17 to 0. We're in control.

The Long March: 25 Plays to Glory

The second half starts with a bang. Pribula finds Martin deep. The pass is caught at the 6, and Martin walks into the end zone. 47 yards. Touchdown. 24 to 0. We're pouring it on. The Wolfpack finally answer. Wilson scores from 1 yard out. They convert the two-point try. 24 to 8. They have life. But we don't flinch. We start a drive that will define the game. Twenty-five plays. We grind it out. Pribula scrambles for a first down. Middlebrook picks up another. Coleman makes a catch. Davis gets us to the 1-yard line. Then Davis finishes it. Touchdown. 31 to 8. The drive took everything out of them.

Closing It Out: Bettridge from 42

The Wolfpack try to respond. They move the ball, but our defense holds. Turnover on downs. We take over and march again. Four plays, and Bettridge is called upon. From 42 yards. It's good. 34 to 8. That's the dagger. They get the ball back, but it's too little, too late. The clock runs out. We've done it. 34 to 8. A dominant performance from start to finish.
