We open in Fort Worth, and we strike first. Burrell from 20 yards, right down the middle. 3 to 0, Tar Heels. TCU answers with a field goal of their own. 3 to 3. Then our offense stalls, and the punt sets them up at our 25. Denman punches it in from 2 yards out. Suddenly we're down 10 to 3. But we don't flinch. Edwards Jr. finds Shipp for 18, right into TCU territory. Then McGill takes it left, 9 yards, and he's in. Touchdown, Tar Heels. Burrell's kick is true. 10 to 10. We end the quarter with a sack on Craig, and we're driving. This one's got fight in it.

The Safety That Shifts Everything

Second quarter, and it's a war of field position. Punts traded, drives stalled. Neither side giving an inch. Then, with under two minutes left, TCU tries to run it out of their own end zone. The rush collapses, and they lose 31 yards. They're tackled in the end zone. Safety. That's two points for us. 12 to 10, Tar Heels. We get the ball back, and we're moving. Edwards Jr. hits Kekahuna over the middle, 10 yards. But the ball comes out. Carroll recovers for TCU. The review upholds it. A gut punch, but we're still ahead at the half. 12 to 10.

A Field Goal And A Stand

Third quarter, and our defense is hunting. Abou Jaoude gets to Craig, strips the ball, and Harvey recovers at the TCU 31. We take over with great field position. Five plays later, Burrell is good again. This time from 28. 15 to 10. TCU tries to answer, but Lewis sacks Craig for a loss of 8, and they're forced to punt. Then we fumble it right back. Hall loses it, Carroll recovers again. But our defense holds. Payne is stopped for a loss of 1 on fourth down. Turnover on downs. We take over at our own 6. We march. Thirteen plays, chewing the clock. But Burrell's 42-yard attempt sails wide. No good. Still 15 to 10, but TCU has the ball.

The Final Stand

Fourth quarter. TCU has the ball, down by five. They drive. Fifteen plays. They get all the way to our 28. Fourth down. Craig drops back, throws for the end zone. Incomplete. Turnover on downs. We take over with under four minutes left. We run the clock. We grind it out. A penalty on TCU gives us a first down, and we kneel it out. The clock hits zero. It's over. We win. 15 to 10, Tar Heels.

First Quarter: A Shootout From the Start

We start this one with a bang. North Carolina takes the opening drive and grinds it out, 11 plays, and they settle for a 20-yard field goal from Burrell. 3 to 0, them. But we answer right back. Craig finds Ashley for 5 yards and a first down, and then Lemmermann drills a 31-yarder. 3 to 3. We're even. Then the defense makes a statement. Burrell's punt is returned 33 yards by Small, all the way to the North Carolina 25. We've got prime field position. Four plays later, Denman rushes left, 2 yards, and he's in. Touchdown. Lemmermann's kick is good. 10 to 3, Horned Frogs. But North Carolina doesn't blink. Edwards Jr. hits Shipp for 18 yards to our 9, and then McGill rushes left for 9 yards and the score. 10 to 10. Tied. We try to answer. Everhart rushes right, but it's a 2-yard loss. Turnover. And then North Carolina's drive ends when Edwards Jr. gets sacked by Din-Mbuh for a 3-yard loss. Turnover. Quarter ends, 10 to 10.

Second Quarter: The Safety That Stings

The second quarter is a war of field position. We push, they push. Craig's pass to Pimpton is broken up. Downs. They punt, we punt. Back and forth, no one giving an inch. Then it happens. With 1:49 left in the half, we're backed up. A rush up the middle goes for a 31-yard loss, all the way to our own goal line. And then the penalty. Illegal bat. It's a safety. Two points for them. 12 to 10. That one hurts. That's a punch to the gut right before the half. But we're not done. Edwards Jr. completes a pass to Kekahuna, who fumbles at our 45. Carroll forces it, Carroll recovers it. We've got the ball back. We try to move, but the clock runs out. End of the half. 12 to 10, them. But we've got the ball and the momentum.

Third Quarter: The Turnover Tide

The third quarter is a nightmare. Craig gets sacked by Abou Jaoude, fumbles, and Harvey recovers it at our 31. They turn that into a 28-yard field goal. 15 to 10. We try to answer. Denman gets a yard. Then Craig gets sacked again, this time for 8 yards, and it's intentional grounding. We can't get out of our own way. But then the defense shows up. Hall fumbles, McFadden forces it, Carroll recovers at their 24. We're right back in it. Seven plays later, we're at their 6. Payne rushes middle. He's stopped for a 1-yard loss. Turnover on downs. We had a chance to tie it, and we couldn't punch it in. North Carolina takes over and drives. They get all the way to a 42-yard field goal attempt. It's no good. We dodge a bullet. But we're still down 15 to 10 as the third quarter ends.

Fourth Quarter: The Final Stand

This is it. We've got the ball, we're down five, and we need a touchdown. We start moving. Craig finds Small for 4 yards and a first down at their 28. We're knocking on the door. Fifteen plays. We chew the clock. We get to their 28. And then, with 4:05 left, Craig drops back. He throws to Scott in the end zone. Incomplete. Turnover on downs. The air goes out of the stadium. We had our chance. We gave it everything, and it wasn't enough. North Carolina takes over. They run the clock. With 1 second left, we get called for offside. It doesn't matter. The game is over. Final: North Carolina 15, TCU 10.
