Touchdown, Wake Forest. Seven nothing. Akron tries to answer, but their drive stalls. Castle punts, Hernandez brings it back 18 yards to our 36. We take over with momentum. Seventeen plays. We grind it down. Lopez scrambles up the middle for 15, right to the Akron 8. We can't punch it in, but Calvert's kick from 25 is good. Ten nothing. Akron gets the ball back, but they're going nowhere. Another Castle punt. We're in control.
The Explosion
Second quarter. Lopez drops back. He sees Meeks deep. He lets it fly. Seventy-two yards. Touchdown. Seventeen nothing. Akron's next drive ends in disaster. Gant fumbles, Firenze forces it, Tongue recovers and returns it to the Akron 43. We take over in prime territory. Calvert adds another one from 29. Twenty nothing. Then Lopez does it again. Short left to Hernandez at our own 26. Hernandez turns on the jets. Seventy-eight yards. Touchdown. And Loerzel converts the two-point try. Twenty-eight nothing. Akron finally gets on the board before the half. Schramm's kick from 28 is good. Twenty-eight to three. We try to add more before the break. Calvert's kick from 38 drifts wide. No good. We'll take the lead into the locker room.
Grinding It Out
Akron opens the half with nothing. Castle punts, Shanks returns it 26 yards to our 31. We take over. Calvert's third field goal of the day, this one from 26. Thirty-one to three. Akron keeps trying.
