This is Missed It. Bethune-Cookman at UCF, Thursday, September 3, 80 and overcast at Acrisure Bounce House, with the Wildcats. You missed it? Here's the whole game, as it happened.

The First Punch

Eighty degrees, overcast, and the Bounce House is buzzing. We get the ball first, and we're moving. Eight plays, but we can't sustain it. Gallagher-Cheetham pins them at their own 26. Fine. Defense, your turn. Then it happens. Watson takes it up the middle. Sixty-four yards. Touchdown. Just like that, we're down seven. We take the kickoff, and before we can even breathe, Williams steps in front of a pass and takes it 47 yards to the house. Their defense scores. Fourteen nothing, and the air is gone. We punt again. They march 11 plays. Barnett III scrambles right, five yards, touchdown. Twenty-one. We get the ball back, and a delay of game kills the drive before it starts. Punt. They take over with under a minute left, and Bibbs hauls in a 23-yard strike. Touchdown. Twenty-eight nothing at the end of the first. We're reeling.

The Snowball

Second quarter starts with Daniel rushing right. Two yards. Then the ball comes loose. Bartrum forces it, and they recover. We're lucky to keep possession, but the drive dies anyway. Punt. They answer with a 34-yard field goal. Thirty-one. Jefferson drops back, and Koumba is in the backfield before he can breathe. Sack, fumble, recovered by Lockett. Another turnover. Chambers punches it in from two yards out. Thirty-eight. We try to answer, but a false start pushes us back, and we punt again. Davis picks off Barnett and returns it 33 yards. Finally, a spark. But Robinson's four-yard run is all we get, and the half ends with Swint rumbling 27 yards for another score. Forty-five to nothing.

The Flood

The third quarter is a blur. Another delay of game. Another punt. Chambers again, 27 yards, touchdown. Fifty-two. We go for it on fourth down and come up empty. Hinshaw returns the punt 46 yards to our 24. Jenkins finds Rollerson for nine yards. Fifty-nine. We punt again. Addae breaks loose for 39 yards. Sixty-six. Marriott caps it with a one-yard plunge. Seventy-three. There's still a quarter left, and we have nothing.

The Last Stand

The fourth quarter is about pride. We punt. They punt. We get the ball back with five minutes left, and something clicks. Eleven plays. We're moving. Morris drops back, and Stewart is open. Eight yards. Touchdown. We're on the board. Six to seventy-three. It's not the score we wanted. It's not the game we wanted. But we fought until the final whistle. We'll be back.

By the Numbers

The Wildcats by the numbers. Final score, Bethune-Cookman 6, UCF 73. 181 yards of offense to their 560, 74 through the air and 107 on the ground. 9 first downs. 3 of 16 on third down. 2 turnovers for us, 1 for them. We held the ball for just under 32 minutes.

Intro

This is Missed It. Bethune-Cookman at UCF, Thursday, September 3, 80 and overcast at Acrisure Bounce House, with the Knights. You missed it? Here's the whole game, as it happened.

Q1: Fast Start, Then a Gut Punch

It's 80 degrees and overcast here at the Bounce House, and we're off. Bethune-Cookman gets the ball first, they go three-and-out, and the punt pins us at our own 26. Two plays later, Watson takes it up the middle, 64 yards to the house. Stone's kick is good, and it's 7 to 0. That's how you open a game. Then the air goes out. Barnett drops back, and Jayden Williams steps in front of it. 47 yards the other way. Touchdown, Bethune-Cookman. It's 14 to 0, and the crowd is stunned. We gave it right back. But this team doesn't flinch. We put together an 11-play drive, and Barnett caps it himself, rushing right from 5 yards out. Touchdown. 21 to 0. Then, just before the quarter ends, Barnett finds Bibbs over the middle, 23 yards, and it's 28 to 0. We took the punch and answered with 21 unanswered.

Q2: The Defense Takes Over

Second quarter, and it's all Knights. Bethune-Cookman is driving, but Bartrum forces the fumble, and they recover their own. Still, the punt comes. We move the ball, but stall out, and Stone hits a 34-yard field goal. 31 to 0. Then the defense strikes. Jefferson is sacked by Koumba, the ball comes loose, and Lockett falls on it at the Bethune-Cookman 37. Chambers punches it in from 2 yards out. 38 to 0. We're rolling now. Barnett throws another one, but Davis picks it off and returns it 33 yards. A mistake, but the defense holds. Then, with time winding down in the half, Swint takes it 27 yards up the middle. Touchdown. 45 to 0 at the half. This one is over.

Q3: The Floodgates Open

Whatever Bethune-Cookman tried to adjust at halftime, it didn't matter. Chambers breaks free up the middle, 27 yards, and it's 52 to 0. The defense forces a quick three-and-out, and Hinshaw returns the punt 46 yards to set up a short field. Jenkins finds Rollerson for 9 yards. 59 to 0. The backups are in now, and they're not letting up. Addae takes it left, 39 yards, and it's 66 to 0. Then Marriott caps the drive with a 1-yard plunge. 73 to 0. The scoreboard is broken, and we don't care.

Q4: The Final Whistle

The fourth quarter is just about running the clock. We get the ball, chew up 12 plays, and punt. Bethune-Cookman gets one last drive, and they finally get on the board. Morris finds Stewart from 8 yards out. The extra point is no good. It's 73 to 6. Final score: UCF 73, Bethune-Cookman 6. A dominant performance from start to finish.
