The Safety That Shook Them
Stony Brook opens the second quarter with the ball. Ten plays, and they're punting again. We take over, and Graham drills one from 50 yards out. 20 to 7. Then it happens. Stony Brook has the ball, and they rush middle. Thirty-one yards backward. All the way to their own end zone. Safety. We'll take those two points. 22 to 7. We punt, they punt, and then we get careless. Battle is sacked for a loss of 10. Turnover. We go to the half up 22 to 7. It feels like we're in control.
The Tide Turns
Stony Brook comes out and goes nowhere. Six plays, punt. We punt right back. Then Boyd finds Sweitzer deep middle for 29 yards. Touchdown. 22 to 14. We answer with Graham from 38. 25 to 14. But they keep coming. Mannino hits a 33-yard field goal. 25 to 17. We get the ball back, and we stall. We punt, and they return it, but a penalty pushes them back. Four plays later, Hester rushes middle for 52 yards. Touchdown. The two-point try fails. 25 to 23. The lead is down to two.
The Final Blow
We answer right away. Rhodes rushes left for 1 yard. Touchdown. 32 to 23. But Stony Brook won't go away. Hester rushes middle for 5 yards. Touchdown. 32 to 30. We punt. They take over. Boyd completes deep right to Aphayvong for 29 yards. Then Boyd rushes right for 8 yards. Touchdown. The two-point try fails. 32 to 36. We have the ball, down four. Nine plays. We get to the Stony Brook 30. Fourth down. Battle throws short right to Roy. Four yards lost. Turnover on downs. Our hearts sink. They punt. We get one last chance. Four plays. Battle throws incomplete deep left to Krobath. The clock hits zero. 32 to 36. Stony Brook by 4. We fought. We led. But tonight, the Seawolves take it.
