Then Alika Williams. One out, bases empty. He crushes one to left. Tie game, 2 to 2. Now Jeff McNeil. One out, Henry Bolte on base. He launches one to right field. Henry Bolte scores, Jeff McNeil scores. We lead, 4 to 2. And then Zack Gelof. One out, bases empty. He goes deep to left. 5 to 2. Four home runs in the inning. The dugout is electric. Seattle answers in the bottom half. Julio Rodríguez grounds out, but Brock Rodden scores. Then Cal Raleigh homers to right center, scoring Randy Arozarena. Just like that, it's 5 to 5. A wild one.

Top 5: The Separation

We're tied at five, and we need something. Top of the fifth, two outs, Alika Williams on base. Zack Gelof steps in. He drives a sharp fly ball to right field. It's a triple. Alika Williams scores. 6 to 5. Lawrence Butler up. Two outs, Gelof on third. He lines a single to center. Gelof scores. 7 to 5. That's the lead we need. Seattle gets nothing in the fifth. Cal Raleigh flies out. We hold them in the sixth too. Taylor Ward grounds into a force out. Still 7 to 5.

Bottom 8: The Squeeze

We're grinding. Top of the seventh, we get nothing. Lawrence Butler called out on strikes. Bottom of the seventh, Dominic Canzone grounds out. Still 7 to 5. Top of the eighth, we get two on with two outs, but Alika Williams grounds out. We leave them stranded. Bottom of the eighth. One out, Cal Raleigh on base. Josh Naylor singles to center. Cal Raleigh scores. It's 7 to 6. The lead is down to one. Taylor Ward pops out to shortstop. We escape, but barely.

Bottom 9: The Last Stand

Top of the ninth, we go down in order. Zack Gelof grounds out. We hand it to the defense with a one-run lead. Bottom of the ninth. Two outs, a runner on. Julio Rodríguez at the plate. The crowd is on its feet. The pitch. He flies out to center field. Denzel Clarke settles under it. And that's the ballgame. We win it, 7 to 6.

Nothing doing. Scoreless after one. Then the bottom of the second, and we finally wake up. Cole Young doubles down the line to right, and Cal Raleigh comes home. One-nothing. Then J.P. Crawford singles sharply to right, and Cole Young scores. Two-nothing. The crowd is on its feet. Lazaro Montes grounds into a double play to end it, but we have the lead. Two to nothing, Mariners.

The Roof Comes Off

And then the third inning happens. Max Muncy homers to left. One run. Alika Williams homers to left. Two runs. Jeff McNeil homers to right, and Henry Bolte scores. Four runs. Zack Gelof homers to left. Five runs. Just like that, it is five to two, Athletics. Carlos Cortes strikes out swinging, but the damage is done. We answer. Julio Rodríguez grounds out, but Brock Rodden scores, and Randy Arozarena moves to second. Five to three. Then Cal Raleigh steps in, two outs, a runner on. The pitch. He crushes it to right center. The Lead Slips Away
