A Quiet Start at Progressive Field

Seventy-five degrees and partly cloudy here at Progressive Field. We're underway. Top of the first, Detroit gets a runner on with two outs, but Eduardo Valencia grounds out to José Ramírez at third, who fires to David Fry at first. Inning over. We come up, Jo Adell flies out to left, and we're scoreless after one. Second inning, same story. John Peck strikes out on a foul tip for Detroit. Austin Hedges strikes out swinging for us. Nothing doing. Still 0 to 0. Then the third inning hits, and it stings. Detroit strings it together. Hao-Yu Lee singles to center, Zach McKinstry scores. Then Kevin McGonigle doubles to right, Gleyber Torres scores. Just like that, we're down 2 to 0. We get out of it, but the damage is done. We can't answer. José Ramírez flies out to foul territory. Fourth inning, three up, three down for both sides. David Fry flies out. We're still chasing, 2 to 0.

The Deficit Grows

Fifth inning, and Detroit adds on. Eduardo Valencia singles to right, Gleyber Torres scores. It's 3 to 0 now. We need something, anything. Steven Kwan lines out to short. We can't get a rally going. The frustration is building. But then, bottom of the sixth. Two outs, José Ramírez on base. Nathaniel Lowe steps in and drives a double to center field. Ramírez scores. We're on the board. 3 to 1. Daniel Schneemann strikes out to end it, but the crowd feels it. We're alive. Seventh inning, quiet. Kevin McGonigle grounds out. Brayan Rocchio strikes out. Still 3 to 1.

The Tie

Top of the eighth, Detroit threatens with a runner on, but Brett Callahan strikes out swinging. We escape. Now it's our turn. Bottom of the eighth, no outs, Steven Kwan on base. Travis Bazzana at the plate. He swings, and he connects. A fly ball to right center field. It's gone. Bazzana homers, Kwan scores. Tie game. 3 to 3. Progressive Field erupts. Nathaniel Lowe strikes out, but it doesn't matter. We've clawed all the way back.

Walk-Off in the Tenth

Ninth inning, both sides go quietly. Gleyber Torres grounds out. Patrick Bailey strikes out. We head to extras, 3 to 3. Top of the tenth, Detroit gets a runner on with two outs, but Eduardo Valencia grounds out to Ramírez. We get out of it. Bottom of the tenth. Two outs. Brayan Rocchio on base. Travis Bazzana steps in again. He's already got the big hit tonight. He swings, and he singles to center field. Rocchio scores. That's the ballgame. We win it, 4 to 3. Bazzana's the hero. What a comeback. What a night at Progressive Field.
