Intercepted at the USC 15. Our drive dies. But our defense answers. Maiava completes short to Jordan, and Hampsten forces the fumble. Khajavi recovers at our 43. We take over. Eight plays, but we stall. False start pushes us back. Lawrence punts it away. Still 0 to 7.

The Tide Turns

Second quarter. USC doesn't waste time. Maiava throws deep middle to Mosley, caught at our 39, and he's gone. 68 yards. Touchdown. 0 to 14. We go three-and-out. Lawrence punts, and Mosley returns it 19 yards to the USC 45. They're driving. They get to our 13. Fourth down. Maiava rushes middle. No gain. Jacks and Regan stop him. Turnover on downs. We take over at the 13. Three plays. That's all we get. And then it happens. Team Safety. 0 to 16. The air goes out of the building. USC takes the free kick and marches right back. Maiava to Mosley, nine yards, touchdown. 0 to 23. We're reeling. Mandal drops back, and Urlacher gets home. Sack, fumble, Boucard recovers at our 38. USC turns it into points. Jordan runs it in from two yards out. 0 to 30 at the half. We kneel it out. 0 to 30.

The Second Half Struggle

We get the ball to start the third. Lawrence punts, and Mosley returns it, but there's a flag. Illegal block in the back on USC. They're pushed back to their 10. But we can't capitalize. USC drives 14 plays, and then Dixon-Wyatt catches it short right, and Laffitte forces the fumble. Regan recovers at our seven. We have life. Two plays. And then another Team Safety. 0 to 32. The kickoff is returned, fumbled, recovered by USC. They punt it away. Touchback. We take over at the 20.

The Final Push

Fourth quarter. We need something. Seven plays, and we're punting again. Lawrence boots it, and they return it to the 21. USC grinds it out. Ten plays. Alston rushes right for 10, first down at our eight. Then Redeaux rushes left, five yards, touchdown. 0 to 39. We get one last chance. Twelve plays. Mandal finds Duvall for 17, first down at their 26. We're knocking. But Ramos gets home. Sack, loss of seven. Turnover on downs. USC kneels it out. Final: Fresno State 0, USC 39.

It's 77 and clear at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and we are rolling. We take the ball first and we don't waste any time. Maiava finds Dixon-Wyatt deep down the right side, 31 yards to the seven. Then, on the next drive, Maiava hits Hines short right, and he walks into the end zone from eight yards out. Touchdown, Trojans. Seven-nothing. Fresno tries to answer, but Mandal's pass is picked off by Brown at our own 15. We take over, but then the ball comes loose. Jordan catches it, fights for yards, and fumbles at the Fresno 43. They recover. We give it right back. Fresno can't do anything with it, though, and they punt it away. We're up seven, and we're just getting started.

The Floodgates Open

Second quarter. Maiava drops back, and he lets it fly down the middle. Mosley hauls it in at the Fresno 39, and he's gone. Sixty-eight yards. Touchdown. Fourteen-nothing. Fresno goes three-and-out, and we take over. We drive, but Maiava keeps it on a rush and gets stopped at the 13. Turnover on downs. But then, the defense does something special. Fresno is pinned deep, and they get caught in their own end zone. Safety. Sixteen-nothing. We get the ball back, and Maiava goes right back to work. He finds Mosley for nine yards and another score. Twenty-three-nothing. Then, just before the half, we're driving again. Jordan punches it in from two yards out. Thirty-nothing at the half. And we're not done. Fresno gets the ball to start the third, and they're pinned again. Another safety. Thirty-two-nothing.

Grinding It Out

We get the ball back, and we start to move. Fourteen plays, chewing up the clock. But then, Dixon-Wyatt catches a short pass, and the ball comes out. Fresno recovers at their own seven. We had a chance to put another one on the board, and we let it slip. Fresno can't do anything, and we get the ball back. But we stall out and have to punt. It's thirty-two-nothing, and we're just waiting for the final blow.

Closing It Out

Fourth quarter. We're deep in Fresno territory. Alston takes a handoff and rushes right for ten yards, down to the eight. Then, Redeaux takes it left, and he's in. Five yards. Touchdown. Thirty-nine-nothing. Fresno tries to get something going, but the defense is relentless. Mandal gets sacked for a loss of seven, and that's the ball game. We kneel it out. Thirty-nine-nothing. A shutout. A statement. We are the Trojans, and this is our house.
