The pitch. Pop out to shortstop Corey Seager. We leave them loaded. Bottom of the second, no outs, bases empty, and Ezequiel Duran turns on one. Homers to center field. Just like that, we're down a run. Cody Freeman grounds into a double play, Walls to Richie Palacios to Jonathan Aranda. We get out of it, but it's 1 to 0 Texas.

The Long Ball Answers Back

Top of the third, one out, nobody on. Jonathan Aranda. He crushes one to right center. Gone. We're tied at one. Victor Mesa Jr. flies out to short, and we're done. Bottom of the third, two outs, and Corey Seager challenges a pitch. The call on the field is overturned. He's called out on strikes. We escape. Top of the fourth, two outs, bases empty. Richie Palacios. Line drive to right. That one's gone too. We lead 2 to 1. Taylor Walls strikes out to end it. Bottom of the fourth, two outs, and Duran grounds out, Caminero to Aranda. The Floodgates Open

Top of the fifth, and this one breaks open. No outs, a runner on. Aranda doubles down the left-field line. Yandy Díaz scores. 3 to 1. Caminero doubles to left. Aranda scores. 4 to 1. Mesa Jr. singles to center. Caminero scores. Mesa Jr. takes second on a fielding error by Evan Carter. 5 to 1. Then Cedric Mullins grounds into a wild double play, but Mesa Jr. scores on it. 6 to 1. Seven batters, four runs. We're rolling. Bottom of the fifth, two outs, a runner on. Elias Díaz grounds into a force out. Inning over. Bottom of the sixth, two outs, a runner on. The Grand Slam That Shakes Us

Top of the seventh, quiet. Three batters, no runs. Mesa Jr. flies out to center. We're still up 6 to 1. Then the bottom of the seventh happens. One out, bases loaded. Elias Díaz. He hits a grand slam to left center. Jake Burger scores. Evan Carter scores. Cody Freeman scores. Just like that, it's 6 to 5. The lead is down to one. Corey Seager grounds into a double play to end it, but the damage is done. Top of the eighth, three batters, no runs. Palacios grounds out. Bottom of the eighth, three batters, no runs. Duran grounds out sharply. We hold.

One More Run, One More Heartbeat

Top of the ninth, one out, two on. Junior Caminero. He singles to center. Jorge Mateo scores. Aranda to second. 7 to 5. Mesa Jr. strikes out to end it, but we've got breathing room. Bottom of the ninth, one out, two on. Elias Díaz again. He hits a sacrifice fly to left. Jake Burger scores. Evan Carter to third. 7 to 6. Two outs, a runner on. Justin Foscue. The pitch. Pop out to Richie Palacios. That's the ballgame. We win it, 7 to 6.

We're scoreless after one. Junior Caminero strikes out swinging to end the top half, and Brandon Nimmo lines out to left to close ours. Nothing doing early. But the second inning, we get something going. With nobody out and nobody on, Ezequiel Duran steps in and drives a fly ball to center field. It carries, it carries, and it's gone. A home run. We're on the board first, 1 to 0. The lead doesn't last long. Jonathan Aranda answers for Tampa Bay in the third, homering to right center to tie it at one. Then Richie Palacios puts them ahead in the fourth with a line drive homer to right. 2 to 1, them.

The Roof Caves In

The fifth inning is where it falls apart. Jonathan Aranda doubles down the left-field line, and Yandy Díaz scores. Then Junior Caminero doubles, and Aranda scores. Victor Mesa Jr. singles, and Caminero scores, and there's an error in center that lets him take second. Before we can breathe, Cedric Mullins grounds into a double play, but a run scores on it. Just like that, it's 6 to 1, Tampa Bay. We go down quietly in the bottom half. The dugout is flat. The crowd is restless. This one feels like it's slipping away.

The Fight Back

We need a spark, and we get one in the bottom of the seventh. The bases are loaded with one out, and Elias Díaz steps to the plate. The tension is thick. He swings, and he connects. A grand slam to left center. Jake Burger scores. Evan Carter scores. Cody Freeman scores. And Elias Díaz trots around the bases, and just like that, it's 6 to 5. We're right back in it. The place is roaring. We've cut it to one. The comeback is on.

The Final Blow

We hold them scoreless in the eighth, and we're still down by one heading to the ninth. But Tampa Bay adds on. With one out and two on, Junior Caminero singles to center, and Jorge Mateo scores. It's 7 to 5, and the mountain just got steeper. We don't quit. In the bottom of the ninth, with one out and two on, Elias Díaz hits a sacrifice fly to left. Jake Burger scores, and it's 7 to 6. We've got a runner on third, two outs, and Justin Foscue at the plate. The whole ballpark is on its feet. He pops out to second. That's the ballgame. Tampa Bay 7, Texas Rangers 6. We fought all the way back, but we come up one run short.
