Third Quarter: The Block and the Strike
Michigan State opens the half, but Smith breaks up the pass. Turnover on downs. We take over. We drive. We stall. Griffith lines up for 54. Blocked. Russell gets a hand on it. But Smith recovers. Smith returns it to the 40. We keep the drive alive. And then Richter finds Dabbs again. Six yards. Touchdown. Griffith's kick is good. 19 to 14. One-score game. Fourth Quarter: Heartbreak in the Final Minutes
Walendzak takes the handoff. Middle. He breaks free. Seventy-one yards. Touchdown. We lead 20 to 19. The two-point try fails, but we're ahead. Michigan State answers. Milivojevic finds Bullard Jr. for 5 yards. Touchdown. The two-point try is good. 27 to 20 Spartans. We drive. We get to field goal range. Griffith from 41. No good. We're still down seven. Michigan State grinds it out. Twelve plays. Boyd hits from 51. 30 to 20. We get the ball back with under two minutes. Richter throws. Dabbs is there. Chappell breaks it up. Turnover on downs. Michigan State kneels it out. Final: 20 to 30. We fought. We led. But the Spartans take it by 10.
