Innings 1-3

We get things started in the top of the first, and it's a quick one. Three batters come up, and we go down in order. No runs, no harm, score stays at nothing to nothing. The Mariners come up in the bottom half, and they match us. Three batters, no runs. It's a pitcher's duel early, and the crowd is settling in. Top of the second, and we're looking to get something going. Two outs, bases empty, and it feels like the inning might just fizzle out. But then Max Muncy steps in, and he doesn't wait around. He gets a pitch he likes, and he launches it. A fly ball to left center field, and it just keeps carrying. That ball is gone. Muncy circles the bases, and we've got the first run of the ballgame. One to nothing, Athletics. The dugout is buzzing, and we've got life. The Mariners answer in the bottom of the second with four batters of their own, but they can't push anything across. We hold the lead, one to nothing, heading into the third. Top of the third, and we're not done yet. One out, and there's a runner on. Alika Williams is standing on the basepaths, and Henry Bolte digs in. Bolte gets a pitch and drives it on the ground, a sharp ground ball to right field. Dominic Canzone gives chase, but it's out of reach. The ball rolls, and Alika Williams is off to the races. He rounds third and comes home to score. Bolte pulls into second with a double, and just like that, it's two to nothing. That's how you manufacture runs. The Mariners come up in the bottom of the third, and they send four batters to the plate, but again, nothing. We're through three, and we've got a two-run lead.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, and we're looking to pile on. Two outs, and there's a runner on. Zack Gelof is on base, and Max Muncy is back at the plate. Muncy, who already went deep once tonight, gets a pitch he can handle. He lines it to center field, right at Julio Rodríguez. But it's hit so hard, and it's in the gap. Gelof is moving, and he scores easily. Muncy is on with a single, and it's three to nothing. That man is having a night. But we're not finished. Still two outs, and now Muncy is standing on first. Donovan Walton steps in, and he's looking to keep the line moving. He gets a pitch and drives it to right field, a line drive that gets past Dominic Canzone. Muncy is off with the crack of the bat, and he's flying around the bases. He rounds third and comes home. Walton is in at second with a double, and it's four to nothing. Two big hits with two outs, and we've blown this game open. The Mariners come up in the bottom of the fourth, and they're desperate for something. One out, bases empty, and Cal Raleigh steps in. He gets a pitch and rips a sharp line drive to left field. Henry Bolte gives chase, but it's just out of reach. Raleigh is on with a single, and the Mariners have their first base runner of the night. The crowd tries to get into it, but we're not rattled. We get out of the inning without any damage. Still four to nothing. Top of the fifth, and we go down in order. Three batters, no runs. But we've got a four-run lead, and our guys are dealing. Through five, it's all Athletics.

The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided. Bottom of the fifth, and the Mariners send three batters to the plate. Nothing. We come up in the top of the sixth, four batters, and we can't add on. Still four to nothing. Bottom of the sixth, three batters for Seattle. Nothing. Top of the seventh, four batters for us, and we're still stuck at four. But the lead feels safe. Bottom of the seventh, and the Mariners are running out of time. No outs, and there's a runner on. Josh Naylor steps in, and he hits a ground ball to second. Donovan Walton fields it, steps on second, and fires to first. Double play. Cal Raleigh is out at second, and Naylor is out at first. The wind just went out of the building. Three batters, no runs, and we're still up four. Top of the eighth, and we're looking to put this one away. One out, and there's a runner on. Zack Gelof is on base, and Lawrence Butler steps in. Butler gets a pitch he can drive, and he doesn't miss it. A fly ball to left center field, and it's gone. Two-run homer. Gelof scores, and Butler is jogging around the bases. It's six to nothing, and this one feels done. But the Mariners aren't going quietly. Bottom of the eighth, and they've got two outs with two on. Cole Young is on third, Randy Arozarena is on first, and Dominic Canzone steps in. Canzone hits a ground ball to center field. Denzel Clarke comes in, but he can't get there. The ball gets through, and Cole Young scores. Arozarena moves to second. It's six to one, and the Mariners have a pulse. But we get out of the inning, and we're three outs away. Top of the ninth, and we go down in order. Three batters, no runs. It's six to one, and we just need to close this out. Bottom of the ninth, and Cal Raleigh leads off. He gets a pitch and drives it to right field, a line drive that gets past Lawrence Butler. Raleigh is in at second with a double. The Mariners are trying to make some noise. They get two outs, and then they've got two on. Cole Young steps in, and he works a walk. That forces in a run. It's six to two. But that's all they get. We close it out, and this one is in the books.

Wrap-up

Final score, Athletics six, Mariners two. We came into Seattle, we took care of business, and we walked out with a four-run win. The bats came alive when we needed them, the pitching held, and the defense made the plays. This is the kind of win that builds something. We're heading home with a good feeling, and that's all you can ask for. Athletics win.

Wrap-up

Final score, Athletics six, Mariners two. It's a tough one to swallow. We had our chances, but the Athletics made the big plays when they needed to, and we couldn't string together the hits.
