We had our chance, and they took theirs. That's the way this game works sometimes. The second inning goes by quietly for us. Three batters, no runs. We're in this thing, but we need to keep chipping away.

Innings 4-6

The fourth inning starts, and we're looking to build on that Acuña home run. Four batters come up, but we can't push anything across. Still three to one, Phillies. We need to keep the pressure on. And then, in the bottom of the fourth, Kyle Schwarber steps in with one out and the bases empty. He gets a pitch he can handle, and he sends it on a fly ball to right field. That ball is gone. Home run. Just like that, the lead is back to three. Four to one, Phillies. That one hurts. We had a little bit of momentum, and they took it right back. The fifth inning is quiet for both sides. We go down in order, and they do the same. We're still down four to one, and we're running out of time. The sixth inning comes, and we get three more batters up, but we can't get anything going. We're heading to the seventh inning, and we need a rally. We need something to happen.

The Sequence

The bottom of the sixth comes and goes without a run, and we head to the top of the seventh, still down four to one. This is where the game gets decided. This is where we find out what we're made of. Top of the seventh, two outs, bases empty. Austin Riley steps in. He gets a pitch he can handle, and he sends it on a fly ball to left center field. That ball is gone. Home run. Riley cuts the lead to two, and it's a four to two ballgame. We're not done yet. We're fighting. Ha-Seong Kim steps in next, and he challenges a pitch. The call on the field is confirmed: he's called out on strikes. Inning over. We get one run, but we need more. The Phillies go down quietly in the bottom of the seventh, and we come up in the top of the eighth, still down two. Drake Baldwin leads off, and he singles on a ground ball to right fielder Bryce Harper. No outs, a runner on. This is our chance. This is the moment. And then, Ronald Acuña Jr. steps in. He grounds into a double play, shortstop Trea Turner to second baseman Luis Arraez to first baseman Alec Bohm. Drake Baldwin is out at second. Ronald Acuña Jr. is out at first. Just like that, the rally is over. The air goes out of the dugout, and we're left with one more inning. The Phillies get five batters up in the bottom of the eighth, but they can't score.
