Boston at Baltimore

This is Missed It. Boston at Baltimore, Saturday, September 5, 80 and partly cloudy at Camden Yards, with the Red Sox. You missed it? Here's the whole game, as it happened.

Pregame

It's a fresh one here in Baltimore, folks. The Boston Red Sox are in town to take on the Baltimore Orioles, and we've got a beautiful zero-zero on the board before a single pitch is thrown. Both teams are looking to make a statement, and we're here for all of it. The Sox are on the road, the Orioles are at home, and the stage is set for nine innings of baseball. Let's get this one going.

Innings 1-3

Top of the first, and the Red Sox are making some noise early. Six batters come to the plate, and before we know it, the bases are loaded with two outs. This is the kind of chance you dream about on the road. Isiah Kiner-Falefa steps in, the crowd is buzzing, and we're all leaning forward. He grounds it to third, Christian Encarnacion-Strand fields it cleanly and fires to first to Pete Alonso. Inning over. Bases left loaded, and we're still at zero-zero. That one stings a little, folks. You get that kind of opportunity, you want to cash in, but the Orioles' defense made the play. We shake it off and head to the bottom half. Bottom of the first, Baltimore's turn. Five batters come up, and with two outs and the bases empty, Gunnar Henderson hits a fly ball down the line toward left. The Orioles challenge the call, fair or foul in the outfield, and the call on the field gets overturned. It's ruled a double, deflected off the glove of left fielder Jarren Duran. A tough break on a ball that had eyes, but we get out of the inning without any damage. Still zero-zero after one. Top of the second, three batters for the Sox, nothing doing. Bottom of the second, three batters for the Orioles, nothing doing. We're moving fast, and the scoreboard hasn't budged. Top of the third, same story, three up, three down for Boston. It's a pitcher's duel so far, and both sides are locked in. Bottom of the third, and Baltimore starts to threaten. No outs, bases empty, and Colton Cowser rips a double on a ground ball to left field, Jarren Duran tracking it down but unable to make the play. A runner in scoring position with nobody out, and you can feel the tension rise. The next batter, Blaze Alexander, hits a ground ball to third. Nick Sogard fields it, and there's a play at the plate. He fires to catcher Connor Wong, and Cowser is out at home. A huge moment, folks. The Orioles had a chance to break this open, and our defense slammed the door. Still zero-zero as we head to the fourth.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, and the Red Sox are trying to get something going. Five batters come to the plate, and with one out and a runner on, Samuel Basallo challenges a pitch result. The call on the field is confirmed, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa draws a walk, moving Nick Sogard to second. Two on, one out, and we've got a real chance here. But then Jarren Duran strikes out swinging, and Eli White follows with a strikeout of his own. Two on, two outs, and the inning fades away. We leave runners stranded again, and it's still zero-zero. These missed chances are starting to pile up, and we need a breakthrough.

The Sequence

Bottom of the fourth, four batters for Baltimore, no runs. Top of the fifth, three batters for Boston, no runs. Bottom of the fifth, four batters for Baltimore, no runs. It's a stalemate, folks, and every pitch feels like it matters. Then comes the top of the sixth, and this is where the game turns. Eight batters come to the plate for the Red Sox, and the dam finally breaks. With two outs and the bases loaded, Eli White steps in. The tension is thick enough to cut. He swings, and it's a line drive to left field, Dylan Beavers chasing it down but it drops in. Trevor Story scores. Nick Sogard scores. Jarren Duran moves to third. It's two-nothing, and the Sox are on the board. The dugout erupts, and we can finally breathe. But we're not done. With two outs and two on, Connor Wong steps up and singles on a ground ball to center field, Colton Cowser fielding it. Jarren Duran scores, Eli White moves to second. Three-nothing, folks. Three runs in the inning, and the floodgates are open. Bottom of the sixth, three batters for Baltimore, no runs. We're holding the lead, and the momentum is all ours. Top of the seventh, six batters for the Sox, and we add more. With two outs and two on, Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubles on a line drive to right field, Heston Kjerstad giving chase. Mickey Gasper scores. Trevor Story scores. It's five-nothing, and this one feels like it's in the bag. The Orioles are deflated, and we're rolling. Bottom of the seventh, three batters, no runs. Top of the eighth, three batters, no runs. Bottom of the eighth, six batters for Baltimore, but they can't push anything across. Top of the ninth, four batters for Boston, no runs, but it doesn't matter. Bottom of the ninth, four batters for the Orioles, and they go quietly. The final out is recorded, and it's over.

Wrap-up

Five-nothing, folks. A shutout on the road, and the Red Sox take this one in style. From the bases-loaded heartbreak in the first to the breakout in the sixth, this team never stopped fighting. The pitching held, the defense made the plays when it mattered, and the bats finally came alive. This is the kind of win that builds something. We came into Baltimore, we took care of business, and we walk out with a five-run victory. That's how you do it, Sox fans. That's how you do it.

Pregame

It's Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles, and we are here at home, ready to go. The Red Sox are in town, and we've got a ballgame ahead of us. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated. Just our guys against theirs, and we want this one. Let's get into it.

Innings 1-3

Top of the first, and Boston comes out swinging. They get something going early, and before we know it, they've got the bases loaded with two outs. This is the moment. The crowd is on its feet, and we need an out. Isiah Kiner-Falefa steps in, and he grounds it to third. Christian Encarnacion-Strand fields it clean, fires to Pete Alonso at first, and that's the third out. Bases loaded, two outs, and we escape. No runs. Score stays zero-zero, and we can breathe again. Bottom of the first, and we want to answer. We get five batters up, and there's a moment in the outfield. Gunnar Henderson hits one down the line, and it's close. Fair or foul, they're checking. The call on the field is overturned, and it's a double. A fly ball to third baseman Nick Sogard, deflected by left fielder Jarren Duran, and Henderson is standing on second with two outs. It's a nice piece of hitting, but we can't bring him home. No runs. Still zero-zero. Top of the second, and Boston sends three batters to the plate. Three up, three down. No runs. We're still locked in. Bottom of the second, and we send three of our own. No runs. This one is shaping up to be a pitcher's duel, and we're okay with that. Top of the third, Boston again, three batters, and nothing doing. No runs. We're holding the line. Bottom of the third, and we get something going. Colton Cowser steps in with no outs and nobody on, and he rips a double on a ground ball to left fielder Jarren Duran. There's a runner in scoring position, and the crowd is starting to feel it. Then Blaze Alexander comes up, and he hits a ground ball to third. Nick Sogard fields it, and it's a fielder's choice. He throws home to catcher Connor Wong, and Cowser is out at the plate. The inning dies right there. One out, a runner on, but the run doesn't score. No runs. Still zero-zero after three.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, and Boston is trying to break through. They get a runner on, and then there's a challenge. Samuel Basallo is up, and the pitch result is being looked at. The call on the field is confirmed, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa walks. Nick Sogard moves to second. Two on, one out, and this is a spot where we need something. Jarren Duran steps in, and he strikes out swinging. One down. Then Eli White, and he strikes out swinging too. Two outs, two on, and we get out of it. No runs. Still zero-zero. Bottom of the fourth, and we send four batters up. No runs. This game is still hanging in the balance, and we're waiting for someone to grab it.

The Sequence

Bottom of the fourth, four batters, no runs. Still zero-zero. Top of the fifth, Boston sends three batters, and nothing happens. No runs. We're still deadlocked. Bottom of the fifth, we get four batters up, and we can't push anything across. No runs. Zero-zero, and the tension is building. Top of the sixth, and this is where it starts to slip. Boston gets something going, and before we know it, the bases are loaded with two outs. Eli White steps in, and he singles on a line drive to left fielder Dylan Beavers. Trevor Story scores. Nick Sogard scores. Jarren Duran moves to third. Just like that, it's two-nothing, and the air goes out of the building. But it's not over yet. Connor Wong comes up, and he singles on a ground ball to center fielder Colton Cowser. Jarren Duran scores. Eli White moves to second. Three-nothing. Three runs in the inning, and we're suddenly staring at a deficit. Bottom of the sixth, and we need to answer. Three batters come up, and we can't get anything going. No runs. Still three-nothing, and the clock is ticking. Top of the seventh, and Boston adds more. Two outs, two on, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa doubles on a line drive to right fielder Heston Kjerstad. Mickey Gasper scores. Trevor Story scores. Five-nothing. The game is slipping away, and we're running out of time. Bottom of the seventh, three batters, no runs. Still five-nothing. Top of the eighth, Boston sends three batters, and nothing happens. No runs. But the damage is done. Bottom of the eighth, and we get six batters up. We're fighting, we're grinding, but we can't push a run across. No runs. Still five-nothing. Top of the ninth, Boston sends four batters, and they don't add any more. No runs. Five-nothing. Bottom of the ninth, and this is our last chance. Four batters come up, and we can't get anything going. No runs. The game ends, five-nothing.

Wrap-up

Final score, Boston five, Baltimore nothing. It's a tough one to swallow. We had our chances early, bases loaded in the first, a double in the third, but we couldn't cash in. And then the sixth inning happened, and Boston took control. Five-nothing. We fought, we grinded, but tonight wasn't our night. We'll be back tomorrow. That's all there is to say.
