The game starts, and it's a pitcher's duel early. We get through the first inning, and we're feeling good. But then, with one out and nobody on, Rafael Devers gets a hold of one. He sends a line drive screaming over the right field wall. Just like that, it's one to nothing, Giants. The crowd goes quiet for a second, but we're not worried. We've been here before. We come up in the bottom of the first, and we go down in order. One, two, three. We're back out there for the top of the second, and our guy on the mound is dealing. He gets through the Giants' lineup without a scratch. No runs, no hits, no drama. We come up in the bottom of the second, and we're looking to answer. We get a runner on, and with two outs, A.J. Ewing steps to the plate. He works the count, and then he gets a pitch he likes. He launches it. A fly ball to right center field, and it's gone. Marcus Semien scores ahead of him, and just like that, we've taken the lead. Two to one, Mets. The place erupts. That's how you answer. But the Giants aren't done. We're in the middle innings now, and we need to settle things down. The top of the fourth, our guy gets through the Giants' lineup without a problem. No runs, no drama. We come up in the bottom of the fourth, and we're looking to tie this thing up. But we go down in order. It's frustrating. We're getting good at-bats, but nothing's falling. Then comes the top of the fifth. This is where it starts to get away from us. With two outs and nobody on, Christian Koss does it again. A fly ball to left field, and it's gone. Four to two, Giants. We're trying to catch our breath, but they're not done. With two outs and a runner on, Rafael Devers steps up. He's already got one homer tonight. He gets a pitch and he sends it out to left field. Jonah Cox scores, and it's six to two. The air goes out of the building. Then, to add insult to injury, Bryce Eldridge doubles on a line drive to our right fielder, Carson Benge. It doesn't score, but it's another hit. We get out of the inning, but the damage is done. It's six to two, and we've got a mountain to climb. We come up in the bottom of the fifth, and we need a spark. We get four batters up, but we can't push a run across. We go down in order in the bottom of the sixth, too. It's six to two, and we're running out of time.

The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided. We're down six to two, and we need something to happen. The top of the sixth, we get through the Giants without a scratch. The bottom of the sixth, we go down in order. The top of the seventh, same thing. We're stuck in neutral. Then comes the bottom of the seventh. We get something going. We load the bases.
