It's a fresh one here in the Mile High City, folks. The St. Louis Cardinals are in town to take on the Colorado Rockies. We've got a full ballgame ahead of us, and we're just about ready to get this one started.

Innings 1-3

We get underway in the top of the first, and it's a quick one. Four Cardinals come to the plate, and we don't push anything across. Score stays zero to nothing. Bottom of the first, the Rockies send three men up, and our guys answer right back. No runs for Colorado either. Still zeroes on the board. Top of the second, and here we go. One out, bases empty, and Joshua Báez steps in. He gets a pitch he likes, and he does not miss it. Báez sends one on a fly ball to left field, and that ball is gone. Gone. A solo homer, and we're on the board first. One to nothing, Cardinals. That's the kind of swing that wakes up a dugout, and you could feel it in our guys right there. We've got the lead. Bottom of the second, three Rockies up, three Rockies down. No damage. Still one to nothing. Top of the third, three more Cardinals, no runs. We're holding. Bottom of the third, Colorado sends three to the plate, and again, nothing doing. Through three full innings, it's one to nothing, Cardinals, and our pitching has been sharp.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, four batters for us, and we can't add on. Still one to nothing. Bottom of the fourth, four Rockies come up, and they can't scratch anything either. We're into the middle innings now, and this one is still tight. One to nothing, our favor. Top of the fifth, and this is where things start to open up. Two outs, a runner on, and Iván Herrera digs in. He gets a pitch he can drive, and he drives it. Herrera homers on a fly ball to center field, and Nathan Church comes around to score. Just like that, it's three to nothing, Cardinals. That was a big swing, a two-out knock that gave us some real breathing room. We're feeling good right now. But then the bottom of the fifth happens. And folks, this one got away from us. Colorado sends ten batters to the plate, and they hang a six-spot on us. The big one comes with one out and two on. Jake McCarthy draws a walk, and Adael Amador comes in to score. Ezequiel Tovar moves to third on the play, and there's a wild pitch by pitcher Matthew Liberatore mixed in there. That walk tied the game at three, and the floodgates opened after that. By the time the inning is over, it's six to three, Rockies. We had a three-run lead, and just like that, it's gone. Top of the sixth, and we need an answer. No outs, two on, and Nolan Gorman steps to the plate. He gets a pitch and he rips it. Gorman doubles on a sharp fly ball to right fielder Jordan Beck, and Leo Bernal scores. Joshua Báez moves to third. That makes it six to four, and we're right back in this thing. That was a big hit, exactly what we needed after that rough bottom half. Bottom of the sixth, three Rockies up, three Rockies down. No runs. We're still down by two, six to four, but we've got life.

The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided, folks. It's settled by the bottom of the seventh, and it starts with us trying to climb back. Top of the fifth, we get the two-run homer from Iván Herrera, and we're up three to nothing. That felt like the moment we took control. But bottom of the fifth, Colorado answers with six. Ten batters come to the plate, and the key play is the Jake McCarthy walk with one out and two on. Adael Amador scores on that walk, Ezequiel Tovar moves to third, and there's a wild pitch by Matthew Liberatore mixed in. That ties it at three, and the Rockies keep rolling. Six to three, Colorado, and the momentum has completely shifted. Top of the sixth, we fight back. No outs, two on, and Nolan Gorman doubles on a sharp fly ball to right fielder Jordan Beck. Leo Bernal scores, Joshua Báez moves to third, and it's six to four. We're within two. Bottom of the sixth, three up, three down for Colorado. We're still in this. Top of the seventh, three Cardinals, no runs. We can't close the gap. Bottom of the seventh, and this is where it slips away. Colorado sends eight batters to the plate and scores four runs. Just like that, it's ten to five, Rockies. The game is settled right here. We had chances, but that inning buried us. Top of the eighth, three more Cardinals, no runs. Ten to five. Bottom of the eighth, five Rockies come up, but no runs. The damage is done. Top of the ninth, and we don't quit. Seven batters come to the plate, and we push two runs across. It's ten to seven now, and for a moment, you let yourself believe. But that's where it ends. We run out of outs.

Wrap-up

Final score, ten to seven, Colorado. We had a three-run lead in the fifth, and we couldn't hold it. The bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the seventh did us in. We fought back, we never stopped swinging, but it wasn't enough tonight. This one stings, folks. It stings because we had it, and we let it get away. We'll shake it off and get back at it tomorrow. That's all we can do.

A solo homer, and just like that, the Cardinals are on the board. One to nothing. It stings a little, but we've been here before. We've got plenty of game left. Bottom of the second, and we send three batters up. We can't answer back. The score stays one to nothing. Top of the third, St. Louis sends three more, and we hold them. No runs. Bottom of the third, we get our chance, three batters, but we can't push anything across. After three, it's still one to nothing, Cardinals. But we're hanging in there, and the bats are due.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, and the Cardinals send four batters to the plate. We keep them quiet. No runs, and the score stays one to nothing. Bottom of the fourth, we get four batters up ourselves. We're putting some pressure on, but we can't get that tying run home. It's frustrating, but the game is still within reach. We just need one break, one big swing, and we're right back in it.

The Sequence

Top of the fifth, and this is where things start to get interesting. The Cardinals have two outs, but there's a runner on base. Iván Herrera steps in, and he launches one to center field. That ball is crushed. Nathan Church scores, and Herrera rounds the bases. It's a two-run homer, and St. Louis extends their lead to three to nothing. That one hurts. We're down three, and we need something to happen. Bottom of the fifth, and we finally wake up. With one out and two runners on, Jake McCarthy comes to the plate. The pitcher, Matthew Liberatore, is dealing, but McCarthy works the count. Then, a wild pitch. The ball gets away, and Adael Amador races home. Ezequiel Tovar moves to third, and just like that, it's three to three. The crowd is on its feet. We're back in this thing. That wild pitch was the spark we needed, and now it's a brand new ballgame. Top of the sixth, and St. Louis answers right back. No outs, two runners on, and Nolan Gorman steps in. He drives a sharp fly ball to right field, right at Jordan Beck. Leo Bernal scores, Joshua Báez moves to third, and the Cardinals retake the lead, four to three. It's a gut punch, but we've shown we can score. We just need to keep fighting. Bottom of the sixth, and we send three batters up. We can't get anything going, and the score stays five to three. Top of the seventh, St. Louis sends three more, and we hold them. No runs. Then comes the bottom of the seventh, and this is where the game turns for good. We send eight batters to the plate, and we explode. Four runs cross the plate, and suddenly it's ten to five. The bats are alive, the crowd is roaring, and we've taken control of this game. The Cardinals are on their heels, and we're not letting up. Top of the eighth, St. Louis sends three batters, and we shut them down. Bottom of the eighth, we get five batters up, but we can't add any more. It doesn't matter. We've got a five-run lead heading into the ninth. Top of the ninth, and the Cardinals make one last push. They send seven batters to the plate and score two runs. But it's too little, too late. We close it out, and the final score is ten to seven.

Wrap-up

That's the ballgame. We took the punches early, fell behind by three, and then we roared back. That wild pitch in the fifth changed everything, and the bottom of the seventh was pure magic. The Rockies win, ten to seven. It wasn't pretty, but it was ours. And that's all that matters.
