We're stuck in a bit of a rut, and the scoreboard hasn't moved in a while. Then comes the top of the sixth, and this is where things start to turn. With one out and a runner on, Drake Baldwin singles on a line drive to right fielder Bryce Harper. Mike Yastrzemski moves to third, and now we've got runners on the corners with one out. The momentum is shifting, you can feel it in the dugout. Ronald Acuña Jr. steps up, and he hits a sacrifice fly to right fielder Bryce Harper. Mike Yastrzemski tags and scores, and just like that, we're on the board. It's two to one, Phillies still leading, but we've got life. The Stretch

So here we are, one-nothing Phillies at the time, and the play that turned this half on was Alec Bohm's double in the bottom of the first. That two-out hit brought home Trea Turner and made it two-nothing. It gave them the cushion, the breathing room, and it's been the difference so far. But we've clawed back. We got that run in the sixth, we've got momentum, and we're only down by one. We need to keep the pressure on, keep fighting, and find a way to tie this thing up. The bats are waking up, and we've got the heart of the order coming around. This game is far from over.

The Sequence

Top of the seventh, we send four batters to the plate, but we can't push anything across. No runs, and we're still down two to one. Then the bottom of the seventh, and this is where it gets painful. With no outs and bases empty, Derek Hill steps up and homers on a fly ball to left field. Just like that, it's three to one. The crowd erupts, and we're reeling a bit. But we've got to keep our heads up. With two outs and bases empty, Kyle Schwarber steps up and homers on a fly ball to right field. Four to one. That one hurts. Two solo shots in the same inning, and now we're down by three. The Phillies send five batters to the plate, and they score two runs. We need something big. Top of the eighth, and we get it. With one out and two on, Ronald Acuña Jr. steps up. He's already got a double and a sacrifice fly tonight, and now he does the unthinkable. He homers on a fly ball to left center field. Mike Yastrzemski scores. Drake Baldwin scores. And just like that, it's four to four. A game-tying, three-run blast, and we're right back in it. Seven batters come up in the inning, and we score three runs. The dugout is electric. Bottom of the eighth, the Phillies go down in order. Three batters, no runs, and we head to the ninth tied at four. Top of the ninth, and this is where legends are made. With one out and a runner on, Austin Riley steps up. He takes a sharp line drive to center fielder Derek Hill, and it's a triple. Ozzie Albies scores, and just like that, we've got the lead. Five to four. That's a huge hit, a go-ahead triple in the top of the ninth, and we're one inning away from stealing this one. Bottom of the ninth, the Phillies send four batters to the plate. They can't push anything across. No runs, no comeback, no walk-off. We close it out, and the final is five to four.

The Stretch

Here's where we stand. We jumped out to a two-nothing lead in the first, and the play that turned this half was Alec Bohm's double in the bottom of the first, scoring Trea Turner from second to make it two-nothing. That was the moment we seized control. But the Braves clawed one back in the sixth, and now it's a one-run game. We need to find that spark again. We need to keep the pressure on, and we need to hold the line. This is where ballgames are won.

Mike Yastrzemski scores, Drake Baldwin scores, and just like that the game is tied at four-four. The air goes out of the building. We had them, and now it's a brand new ballgame. The Braves have all the momentum, and we need to find a way to answer.

Bottom of the eighth, and we need a response. Three batters come up, and we can't get anything going. No runs. The game stays tied at four-four, and we're heading to the ninth with everything on the line.

Top 9

Top of the ninth, and the Braves strike first. Five batters come to the plate, and with one out and a runner on, Austin Riley steps in. He takes a pitch and rips a triple on a sharp line drive to center fielder Derek Hill. Ozzie Albies scores from first, and just like that it's five-four, Braves. The lead is gone, and we're down to our last three outs. The silence in the ballpark is deafening. We've been here before, but this time the mountain is steep.

Bottom 9

Bottom of the ninth, and we've got one last chance. Four batters come to the plate, and we fight. We battle. But we can't push a run across. No runs. The game ends, and the Braves take it, five-four.

Final score, Atlanta Braves five, Philadelphia Phillies four. The Braves by one. We had them. We were up two, we stretched it to four-one, and we let it slip away. This one hurts. It hurts because we were right there, because the bats came alive and then went quiet, because the lead was ours and we couldn't hold it. But this is baseball.
