That's a gift, and we'll take it. We can't do anything with it, though. Four plays and we're done. Back to them. And now they start to grind. Fifteen plays. They're chewing clock, moving the chains, and we can't get off the field. On third down, Williams drops back and finds Roebuck for fourteen yards, caught at our forty-two. First down. They're in our territory, and the defense is bending. We need a stop. We get one, sort of. They settle for a field goal from forty-eight yards out, and it's good. Three to nothing. It's not a touchdown, but it's points, and right now that feels like a mountain. We've got the ball back with just under four minutes left in the quarter. Six plays, and we're punting. The offense can't find a rhythm. The defense holds them to a punt to end the quarter, but we're down three and we haven't done a thing on offense. Something has to change.
Q2
We get the ball back to start the second quarter, and it goes wrong in a hurry. Pinnick drops back, looks for a receiver, and throws it right to them. Jones intercepts it at our thirty and returns it to the twenty-one. Just like that, they're in scoring position, and we handed it to them. The defense has been holding on all night, and now they're backed up against the wall. Five plays later, Williams keeps it himself, rushes left for five yards, and he's in. Touchdown. They review it, but the call stands. Seven points. We're down ten, and it feels like the roof is caving in. And then it gets worse. We get the ball back, and Vorhees takes a handoff up the middle. Four yards, and then the ball is on the ground. They recover it. We challenge, hoping he was down, but the call is overturned. They keep the ball. We just gave it away again, and they're already in our territory. They can't convert. They miss a field goal, and we escape. But we can't do anything with it. Nine plays, and we're stopped on downs. The offense is stuck in the mud. They get the ball back, and it's a mess. Two plays, and they turn it over. We get it back, and then we turn it right back over. One play. One. The sloppiest football you'll ever see. They take over with under two minutes left, and they're driving. Limar rushes right for eleven yards to our eight. First down. They're knocking on the door. But then, on the last play of the half, Limar takes it up the middle, and he gets stopped at the one. Turnover on downs. We hold them out. It's ten to nothing at the break, and somehow, we're still in this thing. Ten to nothing. It's not where we want to be, but it's not over. The play that turned the half , that stand at the goal line. Limar stopped at the one, the clock hitting zero, and us walking off the field with a pulse. That's the moment. That's the thing we can build on. We've been our own worst enemy, giving them short fields, turning the ball over. But the defense held when it mattered most, and that's a feeling we can carry into the second half. We need the offense to wake up. We need to find a spark. But we're still breathing.
The Sequence

One score game. There's still time. We need a stop. We don't get it. They take over, and Limar breaks loose. Eleven yards, right side, touchdown. They add the extra point, and there's a penalty on the kick, but it doesn't matter. Twenty-four to ten. The dagger. We get the ball back, and it's over. Four plays, and we turn it over. They kneel it out. The clock runs down, and that's the game. Final score: ten to twenty-four. They beat us by fourteen. It's a loss, and it hurts. We had our chances , that missed field goal, those turnovers, that stand at the goal line that felt like it might turn everything. But we couldn't finish. We couldn't get the offense going when it mattered. And they did. That's the difference. We fought, we held, we gave ourselves a chance. But in the end, it wasn't enough. And that's the hardest part of all.

Kick Catch Interference on Dillard-Allen, 15 yards. That moves Washington State from their own 24 out to the 39. That's a killer, giving them good field position when we had them pinned back. A big down, and a costly mistake. But our defense doesn't flinch. Washington State gets four plays and goes nowhere. Downs. We're getting the ball back. Now here's where we start to find our rhythm. Our defense just gave us a short field and all the momentum. We take over at the WSU21. Five plays. And then it happens. Williams Jr. keeps it himself, rushes left, and he's got a lane. Five yards to the end zone. Touchdown. The refs are going to review it, checking if he broke the plane, and the call is upheld. Touchdown stands. Robles adds the extra point, and just like that, it's 10 to 0. We're rolling. Washington State gets the ball back, and they're desperate. But on the fourth play, Vorhees takes the handoff, rushes middle for 4 yards to the WSU24, and the ball comes out. Ward forces the fumble and recovers it himself at the WSU24. But wait, they're reviewing it , Washington State is challenging, saying the runner was down before the ball came loose. And the call is overturned. No fumble. They get the ball back. That one hurts. We had them, and it slips away. But we're not rattled. We get the ball back after a stop, and we're driving. Five plays, and we're in field goal range. But Robles misses. The kick is no good. We had a chance to extend the lead and we let it go. Washington State takes over, nine plays, and they're moving, but our defense holds again. Downs. We get the ball back with under three minutes. Two plays. That's all we get before disaster. A turnover. We give it right back. And then Washington State, one play, and they turn it right back to us. It's chaos out there, back and forth, and we're lucky to escape. Now we've got the ball with under two minutes, and we're driving. Limar takes it right, 11 yards to the WSU08. First down.
