No runs cross, and we escape the inning still tied at zero. That's a big stand. Top of the fifth, and we need to answer. Four batters for the D-backs, but again, nothing. The Royals' pitcher is dealing, and we're struggling to find any traction. Score remains zero-zero. Bottom of the fifth, and this is where it gets interesting. With one out and the bases empty, John Rave doubles on a line drive to left fielder Ryan Waldschmidt. A runner in scoring position, and the Royals are threatening. Then Matthew Lugo singles on a ground ball to left fielder Ryan Waldschmidt, and John Rave moves to third. Now they've got runners on the corners with one out. The crowd is getting into it. Kyle Isbel steps in, and he bunt pops out to first baseman Ildemaro Vargas. One out, still two on. Then Bobby Witt Jr. comes up with two outs and the bases loaded, and he flies out sharply to right fielder Tim Tawa. We escape. The inning ends, no runs, and the score stays zero-zero. That was a huge moment, folks. We dodged a bullet. Top of the sixth, and we're trying to build some momentum. Four batters for Arizona, but we can't get anything going. The Stretch

Here we are at the stretch, and it's still a scoreless ballgame. Zero to zero, through six innings. The play that turned this half was that Bobby Witt Jr. fly out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. Two outs, the bases full, and Tim Tawa camped under it in right. That was the moment. If that ball falls, we're down, and this game looks completely different. But it didn't fall. We got the out, we got out of the inning, and we're still in this thing. What we need now is a break. One swing, one hit, one mistake from their pitcher. We've been knocking on the door all game, and it's time to kick it down.

Top of the seventh, and we're still searching. Three batters for the D-backs, and again, nothing. The Royals' pitcher is having the night of his life, and we can't find a way through. The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided, folks. Top of the eighth, and we're still grinding. Three batters for Arizona, and we go down in order. The Royals' pitcher is still dealing, and we're running out of time. Score remains zero-zero. Bottom of the eighth, and Kansas City is trying to walk it off early. Four batters for them, but our bullpen is holding strong. No runs, and we head to the ninth, still tied at zero. Top of the ninth, and this is it. Our last chance in regulation. Four batters for the D-backs, and we can't push anything across. The Royals' pitcher is still in control, and we head to the bottom of the ninth, still tied at zero. Corbin Carroll scores. One to nothing, and we've got the lead. The dam has broken. Then, with two outs and two on, Geraldo Perdomo singles on a line drive to right fielder John Rave. Nine batters come to the plate in this inning, and we push five runs across. Five to nothing, and we're heading to the bottom of the tenth with a commanding lead. Bottom of the tenth, and Kansas City isn't going quietly. With one out and the bases loaded, Salvador Perez steps in, and he doubles on a sharp fly ball to center fielder Tommy Troy. Nine batters came up in the top of the tenth, and they scored five runs. We're down five, and we've got one last chance. The bottom of the tenth starts, and the Royals are fighting for their lives. We get runners on base, and with one out, the bases are loaded. Salvador Perez steps to the plate. The crowd is on its feet, screaming. He takes a swing and drives a sharp fly ball to center field. Tommy Troy is there, but he can't catch it. The ball drops. Kyle Isbel scores. Carter Jensen scores. Bobby Witt Jr. scores. It's a double, and the Royals have cut the lead to five-four. The stadium is rocking. We've got the tying run on base, and the winning run is coming to the plate. But we can't get another hit. The inning ends, and the game is over. The Diamondbacks win it, five to four.
