This is Missed It. Los Angeles Angels at Boston, Monday, September 7, 77 and sunny at Fenway Park, with the Angels. You missed it? Here's the whole game, as it happened.
Pregame
It's Los Angeles Angels at Boston Red Sox, and we've got a ballgame on our hands. The Angels are on the road, looking to make some noise against the Red Sox. We're just getting started here, and both sides are ready to go. Let's see what tonight brings for our boys.
Top 1
We start the game with the Angels coming to the plate. Four batters come up in the top of the first, and we can't push anything across. It's a quick inning, a quiet one, and we're still at zero-zero as we head to the bottom half.
Bot 1
Bottom of the first, and Boston wastes no time putting pressure on us. With no outs and bases empty, Roman Anthony singles on a line drive to right fielder Josh Lowe. That gets the crowd stirring, and suddenly the Red Sox have something cooking. The bases load up from there, and now it's Trevor Story at the plate with one out and the bases loaded. He pops out to second baseman Christian Moore on the infield fly rule. Big sigh of relief there. Then Caleb Durbin steps in with two outs and the bases still loaded, and he strikes out swinging. We escape. No runs, still zero-zero, but Boston let us know they're here.
Top 2
Top of the second, and we're back at it. Four batters come up for the Angels, and again we can't get anything going. No runs, no damage, and the score stays zero-zero. We need to find some life at the plate, because Boston is starting to feel themselves.
Bot 2
Bottom of the second. This one hurts. With no outs and bases empty, Jarren Duran homers on a fly ball to right field. Just like that, Boston leads one to nothing, and the place erupts. We try to settle in, get the next couple of outs, but with two outs and two on, Adley Rutschman steps up. He homers on a fly ball to right field, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa scores, Roman Anthony scores. Just like that, it's four to nothing. One swing, and the inning goes from manageable to a mountain. Four runs cross the plate on seven batters, and we're staring at a four-run hole.
Top 3
Top of the third, and we need an answer. Six batters come up for the Angels, and we just can't find the breakthrough. No runs again. The score stays zero to four, and the frustration is starting to build. We're getting chances, but nothing's falling.
Bot 3
Bottom of the third, and Boston adds on. Six batters come up, one run crosses, and now it's five to nothing. The Red Sox are rolling, and we're digging ourselves a deeper hole with every inning. We need something, anything, to shift the momentum.
Top 4
Top of the fourth, and we're still chasing. Four batters come up, no runs, and the score remains zero to five. The bats are cold, the frustration is real, and we're running out of time to make this a game.
Bot 4
Bottom of the fourth, and Boston goes quietly. Three batters, no runs, and we finally get a clean inning. It's still zero to five, but at least we stopped the bleeding for a moment.
Top 5
Top of the fifth, and we need a spark. Four batters come up, and again, nothing. No runs, and the score stays zero to five. We're halfway through this ballgame, and we haven't put a single run on the board.
The Sequence
Bottom of the fifth, and Boston is still pushing. With one out and bases empty, Caleb Durbin doubles on a sharp line drive to center fielder Kyren Paris. Then Jarren Duran doubles on a sharp fly ball to center fielder Kyren Paris, and Caleb Durbin moves to third. Two runners in scoring position, and we're in trouble. But we bear down, get the outs we need, and Boston comes away empty. No runs. Still zero to five. Top of the sixth, and finally, finally, we get something. With no outs and bases empty, Moisés Ballesteros homers on a fly ball to right center field. That's a run. That's life. The score is one to five, and the dugout is awake. Four batters come up in the inning, and we get that one run across. Bottom of the sixth, Boston goes quietly. Three batters, no runs. Still one to five. Top of the seventh, three batters, no runs. Still one to five. Bottom of the seventh, three batters, no runs. Still one to five. Top of the eighth, and we're trying to claw back. With one out and a runner on, Moisés Ballesteros doubles on a ground ball to right fielder Wilyer Abreu, and Wade Meckler moves to third. Two runners on, one out, and we've got a chance. Christian Moore steps in, and he grounds out, shortstop Trevor Story to first baseman Mickey Gasper. Wade Meckler scores, Moisés Ballesteros moves to third. That's a run, and now it's two to five. Five batters come up in the inning, and we get one across. We're still down by three, but we're fighting. Bottom of the eighth, Boston goes quietly. Three batters, no runs. Still two to five. Top of the ninth, and this is it. Three batters come up, and we can't get anything going. No runs. The game ends, two to five.
Wrap-up
Final score, Los Angeles Angels two, Boston Red Sox five. Boston by three. We fought, we clawed, we got a couple of runs late, but the hole we dug in the second inning was just too deep. That Adley Rutschman homer with two outs and two on, that was the one that broke us. We had chances, we just couldn't cash them in early enough. It's a tough one to swallow, but we turn the page and get back at it tomorrow. That's the game, Angels fans.

Pregame
It's a beautiful night for baseball here in Boston, and we've got a good one on our hands. The Los Angeles Angels are in town, taking on our Boston Red Sox. We're looking to keep the good times rolling, and the boys are ready to go. First pitch is just moments away, and you can feel the energy in the air. Let's get this one started.
Innings 1-3
We get underway in the top of the first, and our pitcher is sharp right out of the gate. The Angels send four batters to the plate, and none of them find their way home. We're scoreless after the top half, and now it's our turn to swing the bats. And oh, what a bottom of the first this could have been. Roman Anthony steps in with nobody out and nobody on, and he laces a line drive right past the right fielder Josh Lowe. A single, and we've got a runner on first. The crowd is buzzing. This is exactly how we want to start. The bats keep working. Before we know it, the bases are loaded with just one out. This is our chance to strike first and make a statement. Trevor Story steps to the plate, and the tension is thick enough to cut with a knife. He gets under one, though, and pops it up. Christian Moore settles under it at second base, and the infield fly rule is called. He's out, and the runners hold. One down, bases still loaded. Now it's Caleb Durbin's turn. Two outs, bases loaded, all the pressure in the world on his shoulders. He takes his hacks, but he can't connect. He strikes out swinging, and just like that, the inning is over. We leave them loaded. We leave them stranded. It's still zero-zero, but we're knocking on the door. The Angels come back up in the top of the second, and again, our guy on the mound is dealing. Four batters, no runs. We're back in the dugout, and this time, we're not going to let the opportunity slip away. Bottom of the second, and Jarren Duran leads things off. Nobody on, nobody out, and he gets a pitch he likes. He doesn't miss it. He sends a fly ball deep to right field, and it just keeps carrying. That ball is gone. Home run. Jarren Duran puts us on the board, and the place erupts. One to nothing, and we're just getting started. The lineup keeps rolling. We get some traffic on the bases, and with two outs and two runners on, Adley Rutschman steps in. He's been waiting for this moment. He gets a pitch and he launches it. A fly ball to right field, and it's got the distance. That ball is out of here. A three-run homer. Isiah Kiner-Falefa scores, Roman Anthony scores, and Adley Rutschman trots around the bases. Just like that, it's four to nothing. The top of the third, the Angels send six batters to the plate, but they can't push anything across. We're still up four, and we're not done yet. Bottom of the third, and we add on. Six batters come up, and we scratch out another run. It's five to nothing now, and we are absolutely rolling. The bats are alive, the pitching is sharp, and the Angels are reeling. Three innings in the books, and we've got all the momentum in the world.
Innings 4-6
Top of the fourth, and the Angels are trying to find a spark. Four batters come up, and again, nothing. We're still up five to nothing, and our guy on the mound is in complete control. Bottom of the fourth, and we go down in order. Three batters, no runs. It's a quiet inning, but with a five-run lead, we can afford a quiet inning or two. Top of the fifth, and the Angels are getting desperate. Four batters, no runs. We are absolutely shutting them down. The defense is sharp, the pitching is sharp, and the lead feels as safe as it can feel in this game. We head to the bottom of the fifth, and we're still up five. Caleb Durbin steps in with one out and nobody on, and he rips a sharp line drive to center field. Kyren Paris gives chase, but it's out of his reach. A double for Caleb Durbin, and we've got a runner in scoring position. Now Jarren Duran is up, and he's already got a home run tonight. He gets a pitch he can handle, and he sends a sharp fly ball to center field. It's deep, it's hit well, and it falls in for a double. Caleb Durbin holds at third. Two runners on, one out, and we're threatening to blow this thing wide open. But we can't push them across. The inning ends without a run, and it's still five to nothing. But the message has been sent. We are in control of this ballgame. Top of the sixth, and the Angels finally get something going. Moisés Ballesteros leads off the inning, and he gets a pitch he can drive. He sends a fly ball to right center field, and it just keeps carrying. That ball is gone. A solo home run for Moisés Ballesteros, and the Angels are on the board. It's five to one now, and they've got a little life. But we answer right back. Bottom of the sixth, three batters, no runs. We're still up by four, and we're just trying to close this thing out. Top of the seventh, and the Angels send three batters to the plate. No runs. Bottom of the seventh, and we do the same. No runs. We're heading to the eighth, and we're still up five to one.
The Sequence
This is where the game gets decided. We're up five to one, and the Angels are running out of time. Top of the eighth, and they're trying to mount a comeback. Wade Meckler gets on base, and with one out, Moisés Ballesteros steps in. He's already got a home run tonight, and he's seeing the ball well. He gets a pitch and he drives it to right field. Wilyer Abreu gives chase, but it gets by him. A double for Moisés Ballesteros, and Wade Meckler moves to third. Two runners in scoring position, one out, and the Angels are knocking on the door. Now Christian Moore is up. One out, runners on second and third. He gets a pitch and he grounds it to short. Trevor Story fields it cleanly, fires to first, and Mickey Gasper makes the catch. Christian Moore is out, but Wade Meckler scores on the play. Moisés Ballesteros moves to third. It's five to two now, and the tying run is coming to the plate. But that's as close as they get. The next batter makes an out, and the inning is over. We're still up by three, and we're three outs away from a win. Bottom of the eighth, and we go down in order. Three batters, no runs. It doesn't matter. We're heading to the top of the ninth with a three-run lead. Top of the ninth, and our guy on the mound is locked in. The Angels send three batters to the plate, and none of them can do anything. The final out is recorded, and that's the ballgame.
Wrap-up
Final score, Los Angeles Angels two, Boston Red Sox five. We win. We take this one by three, and it was a complete team effort. The pitching was sharp, the defense was solid, and the bats came alive when we needed them most. Jarren Duran got us started with that home run, and Adley Rutschman blew it open with that three-run shot. We left some runners out there early, but we never let it cost us. This is the kind of win that builds momentum. This is the kind of win that feels good. We're moving in the right direction, and tonight, we got the job done. Go Sox.
