Four batters come up, but the scoreboard doesn't move. Still zero-two. Bottom of the second, Detroit sends three to the plate, and we hold them. No runs there. We're still in this, but we need something to go our way. Top of the third, another quick one. Four batters, no runs. The bats are quiet, and the frustration is starting to build. Then comes the bottom of the third, and this is where things start to slip. No outs, a runner on. Kevin McGonigle steps in and rips a double on a ground ball to left fielder Trevor Larnach. John Peck hustles all the way to third, and now the Tigers have runners at second and third with nobody out. The momentum is shifting, and we can feel it. One out later, the bases are loaded. Riley Greene comes up, and he works a walk. John Peck trots home, Kevin McGonigle moves to third, Hao-Yu Lee to second. It's zero-three now, and the inning is still going. Then Dillon Dingler steps in with the bases loaded and one out. He hits a sacrifice fly to Trevor Larnach in left, and Kevin McGonigle tags and scores. Zero-four. The Tigers are pouring it on. Two outs now, two on. Brett Callahan gets a hold of one and sends a line drive down the left-field line. It bounces and rolls, a ground-rule double. Hao-Yu Lee scores, Riley Greene moves to third. Zero-five. The inning finally ends, but the damage is done. We're down five, and we've got a mountain to climb.

Innings 4-6

Top of the fourth, and we need a spark. The Twins send five batters to the plate, and finally, we get one. No outs, bases empty, and Kody Clemens steps in. He gets a pitch he likes and sends it on a fly ball to left field. That ball is gone. Home run. One-five. The dugout wakes up, the energy shifts, and we're on the board. And then, no outs, bases empty again. Josh Bell steps in, and he does the exact same thing. A fly ball to left field, and it's out of here. Back-to-back homers. Two-five. The Tigers are suddenly looking over their shoulders, and we're right back in this thing. Bottom of the fourth, Detroit sends five to the plate, but we hold them. No runs. We've stopped the bleeding, and now it's about chipping away. We're down three, and there's still plenty of game left.

The Sequence

Top of the fifth, and this is where the game starts to turn. The Twins send three batters to the plate, and it's a quiet one. Victor Caratini strikes out on a foul tip. One down. Walker Jenkins strikes out swinging. Two down. Luke Keaschall grounds out, second baseman Hao-Yu Lee to first baseman Colt Keith. Three down. No runs, and the momentum we built in the fourth is fading. Bottom of the fifth, Detroit sends three up, and Riley Greene flies out to left fielder Trevor Larnach. No runs there either. The score stays two-five, and we're running out of time. Top of the sixth, three batters, no runs. Bottom of the sixth, three batters, no runs. The game is tightening up, but we can't find the hit we need. Top of the seventh, five batters, but still no runs. The frustration is real. Bottom of the seventh, and Detroit adds on. Two outs, two on. Dillon Dingler steps in and singles on a line drive to center fielder Walker Jenkins. Spencer Torkelson scores, Riley Greene moves to second. Two-six. That one stings. John Peck singles on a ground ball to right fielder Luke Keaschall, and Max Clark scores. Two-seven. The lead is five, and the clock is ticking. Top of the ninth, three batters, no runs. Wrap-up

Final score, Minnesota Twins two, Detroit Tigers seven. It's a tough one to swallow. We had our moments, the back-to-back homers in the fourth gave us life, but Detroit answered every time we tried to climb back. The Tigers took control early, and we couldn't find the big hit when we needed it most. We're heading home with a loss, but this team has fight. We'll be back at it tomorrow, and we'll be ready.

Minnesota's got the ball first, so we'll see what they can do against our guys. The energy in the park is building, the crowd is getting settled in, and we're ready for nine innings of baseball. Let's get this one going.

Innings 1-3

We're scoreless through the first, and it's our turn to get something going in the bottom of the first. With one out and a runner on, Colt Keith steps in. He gets a pitch he likes and sends it on a fly ball to right field. That ball is gone! A two-run homer for Colt Keith, and Hao-Yu Lee comes around to score. We're on the board first, 2 to 0, and this place is rocking. What a way to start the ballgame. The Twins go down quietly in the second, and we can't add on in our half. Still 2 to 0. Then in the top of the third, Minnesota puts together a few at-bats, but they can't push a run across. We head to the bottom of the third still holding that 2 to 0 lead, and that's when things really start to open up. No outs, a runner on, and Kevin McGonigle steps in. He hits a ground ball to left field, and it gets down for a double. The runner on first, John Peck, moves all the way to third. Now we've got something cooking. Then, with one out and the bases loaded, Riley Greene works a walk. That forces in John Peck from third, and just like that, it's 3 to 0. The bases are still loaded, and we're putting the pressure on. Dillon Dingler comes up with one out and the bases still full. He lifts a sacrifice fly to left field, and it's deep enough to score Kevin McGonigle from third. That makes it 4 to 0. Two outs now, but we're not done. With two on, Brett Callahan hits a line drive down the left-field line that gets down for a ground-rule double. Hao-Yu Lee scores from second, Riley Greene holds at third, and we've stretched this lead to 5 to 0. What an inning. We sent eight batters to the plate and scored three runs, and we're in complete control.

Innings 4-6

The Twins finally get to us in the top of the fourth. Kody Clemens leads off and hits a fly ball to left field that just keeps carrying. That one's gone, a solo homer, and it's 5 to 1. Then, with nobody on and nobody out, Josh Bell does the exact same thing. Another fly ball to left, another home run. Back-to-back jacks, and just like that, it's 5 to 2. The lead is down to three, and you can feel the momentum shift just a little. We need to settle down here. We get out of the inning without any more damage, and we go down in order in the bottom of the fourth. Still 5 to 2. The Twins send three batters to the plate in the top of the fifth, and we set them down. Then in the bottom of the fifth, Riley Greene leads off and flies out to left. We can't get anything going, and we head to the sixth still up 5 to 2. The Twins go quietly in the top of the sixth, and we do the same in the bottom. We're through six, we're up 5 to 2, and we need to close this one out.

The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided. We're up 5 to 2, and we need to keep the pressure on. The top of the seventh, Minnesota sends five batters to the plate, but they can't push a run across. We get out of it, still up by three. Then in the bottom of the seventh, with two outs and two on, Dillon Dingler comes through. He singles on a line drive to center field, Spencer Torkelson scores from third, and Riley Greene moves up to second. That makes it 6 to 2, and that's a huge insurance run. We needed that one. The Twins go down in order in the top of the eighth, and we're back at it in the bottom. With one out and a runner on, John Peck steps in. He hits a ground ball to right field that gets through for a single, and Max Clark comes around to score. That's another run, and we've stretched this lead to 7 to 2. That's the dagger. We've got a five-run lead now, and we're just three outs away. The Twins send three batters to the plate in the top of the ninth, and we shut the door. That's the ballgame.
