It's a fresh one here in Seattle. The Texas Rangers are in town to take on the Seattle Mariners, and we've got a ballgame on our hands. The Rangers are looking to make some noise on the road, and the Mariners are looking to hold serve at home. We've got a full nine innings ahead of us, and it all starts right now. Let's get into it.

Innings 1-3

We get things started in the top of the first, and it's a quiet one for the Rangers. Five batters come to the plate, but nobody crosses it. We're scoreless after the top half. The Mariners come up in the bottom of the first, and they go down in order. Three batters, no runs. It's a clean, quick start for both sides. Zero-zero after one. The top of the second rolls around, and this is where we get our first bit of life. No outs, bases empty, and Jake Burger steps in. He gets a pitch he likes, and he does not miss it. Burger sends a fly ball to center field, and it just keeps carrying. That ball is gone. Home run. Jake Burger has put the Rangers on the board, and we've got a one-nothing lead. The dugout is up, the fans in the stands are on their feet, and we've got ourselves a ballgame. But the Mariners answer right back in the bottom of the second. They get a runner on, and with two outs, Taylor Ward steps up. He lines one to center field, right at Ezequiel Duran, but it's hit too hard and too well. It gets down, and Cal Raleigh comes around to score. Just like that, it's tied at one apiece. We've got a brand new game on our hands. The top of the third, and the Rangers are trying to answer. With one out and two runners on, Brandon Nimmo steps in. He grounds one to first base, and it's a force out. Josh Naylor fields it, fires to shortstop J.P. Crawford, and they get the out at second. But Corey Seager is able to advance to third on the play. So we've got a runner at third with two outs now, but the inning ends without a run crossing. We're still tied at one. The bottom of the third, and the Mariners are looking to grab the lead. With two outs and nobody on, Randy Arozarena steps in. He hits a sharp line drive to right field, and Brandon Nimmo has to go get it. It's a double, and Arozarena is standing on second base. But the Mariners can't bring him home. We head to the fourth, still tied at one.

Innings 4-6

The top of the fourth is a quick one for the Rangers. Three batters, no runs. We're still tied at one. But the bottom of the fourth is where things start to slip. The Mariners get two runners on, and with two outs, Cole Young steps in. He gets a pitch he can drive, and he sends a sharp fly ball to right field. Brandon Nimmo is tracking it, but it's just out of reach. That ball gets down, and it rolls. Josh Naylor comes around to score. Taylor Ward comes around to score. Cole Young is standing on second with a double, and just like that, the Mariners have a two-run lead. It's three to one, and we've got some work to do. The top of the fifth, and the Rangers are trying to chip away. No outs, bases empty, and Cody Freeman steps in. He lines a single to right field, right at Taylor Ward, and it falls in. Freeman is on first base, and we've got a baserunner. But we can't do anything with it. Three batters come up after that, and nobody crosses the plate. We're still down three to one. The bottom of the fifth is a quiet one for the Mariners. Three batters, no runs. And the top of the sixth is just as quiet for us. Four batters, no runs. We're heading into the later innings, and we're down by two. We need something to happen.

The Sequence

This is where the game gets decided. The bottom of the sixth, and the Mariners go down in order. Three batters, no runs. We've got a chance. The top of the seventh, and we're trying to get something going. No outs, bases empty, and Joc Pederson steps in. He works the count, and he draws a walk. We've got a baserunner with nobody out. This is our chance. But we can't capitalize. Four batters come up, and nobody scores. We're still down two. The bottom of the seventh, and the Mariners are trying to add on. With two outs and nobody on, Lazaro Montes steps in. He hits a fly ball to left field, and Wyatt Langford is tracking it. It gets down for a double. Montes is on second, but the Mariners can't bring him home. We head to the eighth, still down three to one. The top of the eighth, and this is where we make our move. No outs, bases empty, and Corey Seager steps in. He gets a pitch he can handle, and he sends a fly ball to left field. That ball is gone. Home run. Corey Seager has cut the lead in half. It's three to two, and we've got life. The dugout is up, the energy is back, and we've got one more inning to make something happen. The bottom of the eighth, and the Mariners are trying to get that run back. Four batters come up, but nobody scores. We're still down by one, and we've got the top of the ninth. The top of the ninth, and we've got one last chance. No outs, a runner on, and Joc Pederson steps in. He grounds out softly to the pitcher, Andrés Muñoz, who flips it to Josh Naylor at first. The runner, Cam Cauley, advances to second. One out. Then Nicky Lopez steps in, and he strikes out swinging. Two outs. We've got one more chance, but it's slipping away. The final batter comes up, and the Mariners close it out.

Wrap-up

And that's the ballgame. The Texas Rangers fall to the Seattle Mariners, three to two. We had our chances. Jake Burger gave us the early lead, Corey Seager brought us back in the eighth, but it just wasn't enough. The Mariners take this one by a single run, and we head home with a tough loss. We fought, we clawed, but tonight, Seattle gets the last word. We'll get them next time.

Josh Naylor is on base, Taylor Ward is on base, and Cole Young steps up to the plate. He gets a pitch and drives it deep to right field, a sharp fly ball past Brandon Nimmo. Naylor scores, Ward scores, and Cole Young is standing on second with a double. Just like that, we've got a three to one lead. The crowd is on its feet, and we're rolling.
